What do you mean by “Real Rooms for Real People?”

Great question! My clients want rooms they can feel comfortable in — that work well for their families, and look beautiful. They are looking for design advice that makes sense for their lifestyle, taste and budget. My goal is to help my clients get the rooms they want to live in.


How can you help me?

Have you ever felt overwhelmed at the tile showroom or flooring showroom? When you go shopping for furniture, do you look around, then leave with nothing because you are not sure what will fit or what will look good? Have you painted several colors on your walls only to find that none are quite right? Are you mystified by the number of choices available? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you are like many of my clients. I can help take the guess work out of selecting just the right items for your home.

I offer several services that can help you get the rooms you want. Perhaps you only need an hour or two of consultation time to get you on the right track. We can discuss paint colors, furniture arranging, accessorizing, ideas for walls, windows and floors, just about anything! I can help you avoid costly mistakes by telling you what colors, sizes and styles will work for you in your home.

If you need full service interior design, I can offer that as well. I offer Custom window fashions, gorgeous flooring, area rugs, fabrics, furniture, lighting, and more. In addition, I have a list of trusted contractors I work with and am happy to recommend to you. Or perhaps you’d like a One-Day Redesign, during which we creatively rearrange and reposition your existing furniture, artwork and accessories.


What is a one-day redesign?

That’s my specialty! Redesign is the process of designing rooms using existing furnishings. Redesign specialists, like myself, make the most of what our clients already own, making their existing furnishings look fantastic in a pulled-together, cohesive arrangement. We utilize design principles such as color, texture, theme, harmony, balance and scale, to give our clients beautiful, comfortable rooms that reflect their taste and lifestyle.

Does redesign work with any style of furnishings?

Yes! That’s the beauty of it — I have worked with all styles and ages of furnishings, with amazing results each time.


How do I know if I am a good candidate for redesign?

If you fit any of these categories, you are a GREAT client for redesign:

  • You have downsized or moved to a new home.

    Perhaps you need help deciding what to take with you and what to part with. Perhaps you’ve already moved and are having trouble making your existing furniture fit into your new house. Let us come in and arrange your furniture, hang your artwork and family photos, and place your collectibles and accessories. We will even arrange bookcases and china cabinets. A redesign will make you new house feel like home — usually in one day!

  • You have inherited furniture and must make it work with your existing things .

    Perhaps you love what you’ve inherited but are not sure how to incorporate it with your existing furnishings; or perhaps you feel guilty that it is still in the garage and you are not using it. Let us come in and work our magic — with an objective eye, we will use those pieces that add beauty and functionality to your home. We will showcase the items you love and want to keep.

  • You have married or remarried and are blending households.

    Again, you may be dealing with too much furniture or conflicting decorating styles. With our objective eye and skill in arranging, redesigners can help pull together a cohesive look that will please both spouses.

  • You have had their furniture in the same arrangement for years and who want a new look.

    Many times, my clients simply are tired of the way their rooms look and want to freshen things up. It can be difficult to look at your room objectively and make big changes. We often get stuck in a rut — but just because that furniture or artwork has always been in that room doesn’t mean it needs to stay there. Without purchasing anything new, you can have an entirely new look!

  • You have “tried everything” and still can’t seem to get the look you are after.

    Sometimes clients have oddly-shaped rooms and therefore have trouble arranging the furniture. Maybe the room just feels uncomfortable or unappealing, and you just can’t figure out why. We redesigners are experts at this — we analyze the room shape, look at the focal point, and use design principles to create a beautifully designed room using only your things.

    How much does a redesign cost?

    The cost is affordable. We can do one room at a time, or the whole house. We don’t require that you buy anything new, and, if you choose to purchase new things after the redesign, we will give you advice on exactly what to buy, where to get it, etc. so you don’t make costly mistakes. Many of our clients say that our suggestions alone are worth the cost. A typical room redesign usually costs less than the cost of one new piece of furniture. I charge $125 per hour for both consultation and redesign time. Typically, we can redesign between 1-3 rooms in about 3-5 hours. I can give you an accurate price quotation during our initial consultation.


    Do you charge for the initial consultation?

    Yes, and this is why: During the initial consultation we get right down to business talking about your home, and I share many ideas, suggestions and recommendations to you. We also talk about your wishes and desires for the room. Some clients prepare a list of questions ahead of time, which I am happy to answer. It usually takes about an hour and the rate is $125/hr.


    How long does a redesign take?

    A typical living room takes between 2-3 hours, depending on how many art pieces and accessories there are. I can give you an accurate time estimate after I see the house. Usually we can redesign an entire home in one day.


    Can I be home during the redesign?

    Yes, that is possible, although we always recommend that our clients go to work or out with friends while we work our magic. Most of our clients enjoy the surprise of a transformed home when they return.


    What happens during a redesign?

    There are several steps. The first is to meet with you to see your home and discuss your wants and needs for the room. During our consultation appointment, we set a date for the redesign. On redesign day, we clear the room of all artwork, accessories and as many furnishings as possible. We evaluate the room’s architecture, determine the focal point, and use design principles to artfully rebuild the room by placing the furniture, lighting art and accessories in a new arrangement. We leave you with a transformed room! Then we call you back for the big room reveal — just like they do on HGTV!


    Do you offer holiday redesigns?

    You bet! If you don’t have time, or are just looking for a creative new look for your holiday décor, let us come and work our holiday magic. All you have to do is bring your boxes down from the attic or garage. We will use what you already own to create a beautiful holiday home that your friends and family will ooh and aah over. If you prefer to decorate your own Christmas tree, it’s no problem. We’ll leave that decision up to you. While our specialty is interior décor, we will include your front porch if you like!
